In this program, students will learn that the power of a GIS comes from the ability to relate different information in a spatial context and to reach a conclusion about this relationship. Most of the information we have about our world contains a location reference, placing that information at some point on the globe. Students will explore and learn to utilize the many different computer databases that can be directly entered into a GIS and are being produced by Federal, State, tribal, and local governments, private companies, academia, and non-profit organizations.

Technical Programs in Environmental Health and Safety Technology

As a result of a growing awareness of environmental hazards and the need to comply with governmental regulation of environmental issues, many businesses and industries need workers who have technical expertise in environmental health. Workers are also needed to help address safety issues and prevent accidents or other problems that can cause injuries and cost money. To help meet these employment needs, the Division of Health Sciences and Business Technology offers a diploma, a certificate, and two technical competency areas in the environmental health and safety technology field.
