NURS 2350 - Transition Course for Articulating LPN Students


Lec. 4; Cr. 4

Focuses on the transition from the role of practical nurse to one of registered nurse through didactic learning experiences. Content areas include integrated processes of caring, communication and documentation, teaching learning, the nursing process and current trends in health care delivery. Patient needs include physiologic and psychosocial integrity and are addressed through health promotion, safety, health assessment, legal/ethical issues, medication calculations, the basis for pharmacotherapeutic interventions, fluid and electrolyte homeostasis and acid-base balance. This course includes a practicum which focuses on the transition from the role of practical nurse to one of registered nurse through laboratory and clinical experiences.  Involves the integration of nursing process as the basis for clinical decision making and care in the management of patient needs.

 

 

Prerequisite(s): Grade of “C” or better in ENGL 1001  /ENGL 1002 ; MATH 1020   or MATH 1021 ; BIOL 1160 /BIOL 1161 ; BIOL 2160 /BIOL 2161 ; BIOL 1011 /BIOL 1012 PSYC 2070 ; Selective admission to the LPN Advanced Standing Articulation; proof of current Louisiana LPN license; Successful completion of the nursing entrance examination.
Corequisite(s): NURS 2352  
Pre- or Co-requisite(s):  General Education Humanities elective or General Education Fine Arts elective.
