Program Mission and Goals

Mission:

The mission of the Medical Billing and Coding program at Louisiana State University Eunice is to provide students enrolling in the program to acquire skills, knowledge, and discipline, which will allow them to have a successful career in the medical billing and coding field.  The medical billing and coding program provides the student with excellence in medical billing and coding related education.  This inspires professionalism and cultivate graduates that will be successful in the health care industry.

 

Goals:

  1. To prepare graduates to enter the workforce as entry-level medical billers and coders who meet employer expectations with respect to their knowledge, skills, and behavior.
  2. To provide students with the highest quality education through didactic, laboratory, and internship instruction with emphasis on the psychomotor, affective, and cognitive learning domains.
  3. To provide employers high knowledgeable entry-level medical billers and coders who are able to adapt well in the working environment and prove themselves dependable, ethical, and competent.

  

Requirements for Admission to the Medical Billing and Coding Certificate of Technical Studies

  1. Be fully admitted as a student to LSU Eunice.
  2. Student must be eligible for ENGL 1001 and college-level mathematics
  3. A grade of “C” or better in BIOL 1001 or a minimum ACT score of 19 in Scientific Reasoning

Retention/Progression Guidelines

Acceptance into the LSU Eunice Medical Billing and Coding program entitles the student to progress through the Medical Billing and Coding CTS curriculum along with the class (cohort) to which he or she is admitted. In order for a student to be retained and progress in the curriculum, a student must:

  1. Maintain an LSUE and an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  2. Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher in all course in the Medical Billing and Coding Curriculum.
  3. Complete all courses in the curriculum with a grade of “C” or better.

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate with the Certificate of Technical Studies in Medical Billing and Coding, students must complete all required coursework once admitted into the program with a grade of “C” or better and be in good standing with LSUE.
