The program is designed for individuals currently working in the health care field and for other experienced workers seeking a career change. Students receive training in handling various medical records and other health information used in keeping track of patients’ medical history, treatment, and outcomes and in making insurance claims and handling billing. Prerequisites in this program cannot be waived, but students may select to test out of any prerequisite or courses in the program. Fifteen semester hours of course work must be taken at LSU Eunice. All course work in the program must be passed with a “C” or better.
Note: Plans are to discontinue this prorgam beginning Fall 2015. Students currently in the program will be allowed to graduate as long as they complete the certificate by the end of summer session 2016.

Technical Programs in Medical and Health Services
The health care industry needs employees in a variety of positions that involve processing and managing information to keep patient records, handle billing, and complete insurance claims. Employees must be familiar with medical terminology and coding and must know the correct procedures to manage medical and health information efficiently. The Division of Health Sciences and Business Technology offers a diploma and certificate in the medical and health services field.
